Intersectionality. Let me explain. Any woman wearing makeup is in drag. Any man wearing Armani is in drag. On RuPaul’s Drag Race the queens look like hookers drawn by artists tripping on ayahuasca. Real-life drag queens look like upper-class women naïvely conceived by working-class gay men. Quite a few middle-American housewives look and carry themselves like butch lesbians. Do you doubt me? Check out Target or Walmart. There you’ll see middle-American husbands looking and walking just like butch lesbians. This has been a public service announcement. A woman friend said something like this when I lived in Amherst, and she called them New England Crusties:
"Quite a few middle-American housewives
look and carry themselves like butch lesbians."
She was from Ohio. A born New Englander saw them as the hard-bitten descendants of whalers' wives just down from their widow walks.
