NOTES
Patent Pending was scanned from the archives of Monday Editions, a press founded in 1994 for the publication of zines, comics, and mail art, and retooled in 2023 as a gift-economy micropress for the publication of signed and numbered limited-edition poetry chapbooks. A new website for Monday Editions is coming soon.
Speaking of the Monday Editions archives, earlier this year at Diary Poems I posted an uncredited excerpt from New Voices of Northern California, a 2007 anthology that gathered the work of five fictitious poets.*
Monday Editions is excited to be publishing The Fourteen Thieves & Body Cams, twenty-eight lexically and syntactically innovative American sonnets by , with a short introductory essay by the author.** The launch date is June 16.
* New Voices of Northern California opens with work by a poet whose biographical note reads as follows:
BRIK TRUC II, a heterosexual vegan, is a graduate of Haverford College. By nature a nonconformist, he composes his muscular yet sensitive poems primarily as an act of solidarity with his oppressed brothers throughout Latin America, but he is by no means indifferent to the fate of the Palestinians. Brik offers low-cost classes in radical poetics to men newly released from prison and is active in the U.S. men’s movement. He describes himself as “cohabiting but looking.”
DM me for the title of young Brik’s poem (explicit).
** James Maynard is not to be confused with the British mathematical theoretician who won the Fields Medal but has yet to produce a poetry chapbook. Our James Maynard has already published two: Throwaways (Molly Dog Press, 2013) and An Absence of, An Earnest (Finishing Line Press, 2017).
Sometimes the mathematical theoretician gets confused for me.
So much to unpack here!
The Dem-O-Graph-Emote-O-Mat! Ack!!
Bric is a hoot.
James Maynard is a fine poet.
