Oh, X.P., this is what I didn't know about Fauci. I knew about this crime done by the Institute, but never noted who was at its helm!

It was NIAID and other federal agencies. It wasn't Fauci alone, but it was convenient to make him the face of the problem. Later he did what he could. There was plenty of hatred and cynicism, but certainly not from Fauci, who is a mixed bag, like most of us. On balance, the issues were structural and bureaucratic

You do like cooking up food for thought! The ambiguity of the last line (is that a question without "?" or what?) is the cherry on top. Barely covers the unresolved anger and grief bubbling under this poem.
