We cleared out her house as she’d asked, floorboards to rafters. Afterward the rooms were bone flutes in an unchained wind. For myself I kept a crystal on a knotted cord. I carried it back home with me to the high desert. She would like the way it brightens my kitchen window. How it throws rainbows to the walls and the shy corners.
