The matchbook cover reminds me of ads years ago in the back pages of magazines touting ways to make money in your spare time at home. For example, envelope stuffing.

Oh yes. And in the back pages of comic books (formative literature for me), you could find ways to own 1 square inch of Alaska or throw your voice from any room or see anyone naked through your X-ray Specs or mesmerize anyone with your Hypno-Coin.

I have here a decomposing copy of Doc Savage magazine from 1941. Among the ads in the back are these: Train for ELECTRICITY, Patents Secured, Detectives—Instructions, Learn To Mount Birds, Old Gold Wanted (“Ship old gold teeth, crowns, jewelry, watches—receive cash by return mail. Satisfaction Guaranteed.”)

And perhaps my favorite: Learn Blueprint Reading. Thousands of Men Wanted at Once! “If you can read English—you can learn to read blueprints”
